Contact, the Movie
Adapted from the novel by Carl Sagan, Robert Zemeckis directs this epic follow-up to his Oscar-award winning film Forrest Gump. Contact follows Joseph, a level 30 mage played by the demi-god Jake Busey of Tomcats fame, who leads an elite religious group out to stop the government from allowing a douche like Tom Skerritt to go on a groovy journey through outer space and talk to their god. Jake Busey is at his best in this one, big teeth, weird faces, and plenty of new age preaching - classic Jake Busey. One of the greatest scenes is when he's walking around the worm hole generating machine pretending to be a loser technician when in fact he looks very much like the leader of a cult and is about to save the world by bombing the hell out of douche Tom Skerritt. He then unleashes a chain contingency of a combination of fireshield red and spell immunity evocation on himself and gets ready for action. After realizing who they were in the presence of, some Jake Busey fan bellows out, "Oh my God (Jake Busey), it's [the] bomb (Jake Busey)." This turns everyone's attention to Jake Busey who gives them all a look that kills three people instantly. Tom Skerritt is obviously too great a foe to be defeated this way, and starts walking toward Busey thinking he'll do something that's not part of Jake's plan - not so. Jake Busey tears away his vest revealing an unexclusive doomsday machine strapped to his chest then says something to the effect of, "Shoot a nuke down a bug hole, you got a lot of dead bugs." He then pushes the button on his detonation device, effectively effing Tom Skerritt and sending him back to hell. Due to the protective spells Jake casts on himself prior to Tom Skerritt's shellacking, he remains unharmed. His job done, Jake Busey goes on to star in the big summer blockbuster Starship Troopers where he stars as a musician who plays a neon green violin.

Contact also has a very enthralling and thought-provoking side plot co-starring Matthew McConaughey and Jodie Foster. McConaughey (or McConaghey for some) does very well in this movie, but his undisputed best is still his work in Reign of Fire. Also starring Christian Bale, McConaughey plays a crazy skinhead American dragon killer with a kickass beard and a whole lot of attitude. It ends with him tearing the king dragon apart with his battle axe and making magical dragon scale armor +3 out of its dead dragon corpse.

For those who need a science fiction flick that doesn't require thought or plot, catch one of Roland Emmerich's movies. You'll remember him as the director of such gems as Stargate, Universal Soldier, Independence Day (ID4), or the Oscar-worthy Godzilla. For those who enjoy a realistic sci-fi movie, Contact is a story based around the events that occur all over the earth after the first contact with intelligence outside our world, but more specifically around the lives of the scientists and people most involved with the discovery. The movie introduces some captivating themes dealing with both religion and science. If Contact was a plate of food it wouldn't have as much hamburger and fries as Pirates of the Caribbean or Two Towers, rather it would have a respectable amount of pot roast and perhaps mashed potatoes and broccoli with lemon, also some ice water and maybe a slice of apple pie a la mode with a caramel sauce topping for dessert.
